The Colorado Natural Heritage Program is Colorado s only comprehensive source of information on the status and location of Colorado s rarest and most threatened species and plant communities.. We share information with a wide range of stakeholders in partnerships that work to ensure the Colorado s biodiversity resources are not diminished.. CNHP has an enormous impact on conservation in Colorado through these partnerships.. CNHP tracks and ranks Colorado s rare and imperiled species and habitat and provides scientific information and expertise to promote the conservation of Colorado s wealth of biological resources.. Established in 1979, the CNHP is a non-profit scientific organization affiliated with the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University.. What can CNHP do for you? Click.. here.. for our brochure.. Inventory.. CNHP s biologists work throughout Colorado to document our critical biological resources.. We conduct inventories for rare animals, plants, wetlands, riparian areas, and plant communities at the scale of a single parcel all the way to an entire County.. By identifying and describing the locations of Colorado s rarest species and habitats, this work is critical for supporting conservation activities statewide.. Information from these projects has been instrumental in some of Colorado s biggest conservation successes over the past 30 years, such as the Mountains-to-Plains Project in Larimer County and the enlargement of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.. Monitoring.. CNHP is a leader in monitoring the status of Colorado s rare species and plant communities.. CNHP formed a partnership with the Colorado Division of Wildlife in 1999 to monitor known breeding sites and to survey locations throughout Colorado for new populations of the state endangered Boreal Toad.. Other ongoing monitoring projects involve the Preble s Meadow Jumping Mouse, Pawnee Montane Skipper, noxious weeds, several rare plant species, and the impacts of grazing and management on prairie.. CNHP s monitoring efforts provide information and  ...   time ever.. CNHP is using species distribution modeling to refine and economize efforts to search for previously unknown populations.. We support regional planning needs by analyzing data and writing science-based management plans.. As one of five pilot states in establishing Landscope America (www.. landscope.. org), CNHP has helped to develop this conservation guide to America s natural places.. We are a partner in Colorado s Rare Plant Conservation Initiative to save Colorado s wildflowers.. Vegetation Classification and Ecological Systems.. CNHP ecologists are helping to identify, define, and map Colorado s natural communities and ecological systems statewide.. CNHP has also pioneered techniques for assessing the biodiversity status of ecological system patches.. Wetland condition assessment tools in development by CNHP including Floristic Quality Assessment, Vegetation Index of Biotic Integrity, and Ecological Integrity Assessment are helping to identify conservation priorities and opportunities throughout Colorado.. Data Sharing and Distribution.. As Colorado s only comprehensive source of information on Colorado s rare species and their habitats, CNHP supports conservation efforts by maintaining and providing data.. In this way, we truly work closely with stakeholders in the federal, state, local, and private sectors, as well as with academic researchers, to support conservation management, research, acquisition, and policy.. We use advanced database tools such as the Biodiversity Tracking and Conservation System (BIOTICS) Statewide Database to maintain and share these data.. Environmental Review.. CNHP s environmental review services meet the information needs for evaluating projects for potential impacts to rare species and their habitats.. Our environmental review clientele includes landowners, consulting firms, local planning departments, and nonprofits that use CNHP data to inform decisions on development and management.. Guidance from CNHP data and expertise are needed support development and planning activities involving wind energy, pipelines, roads, growth management, easement purchase, and numerous other activities.. • Title: About Requesting CNHP Data
Descriptive info: CNHP s Biodiversity Tracking and Conservation System (BIOTICS) for natural heritage elements (occurrences of significant natural communities and rare, threatened or endangered plants and animals) has become the standard reference for consultants, scientists and planners who require accurate science-based data on the location and condition of species and natural communities in Colorado.. CNHP maintains this database as an independent non-profit and thus must rely on contract work to make this invaluable resource available.. Below is a detailed description of our fee structure.. CNHP has organized data requests into a tiered system to better track our data requests.. Most of our professional consultants will find they typically order Tier II data.. If you have any questions on the new rates please contact Michael Menefee.. For reference we first provide definitions for key terms.. Element:.. A global- or state-rare species, infraspecies, or unique natural community tracked by CNHP.. Mapped Location (ML):.. Locations of CNHP tracked elements initially entered into database.. Mapped locations are converted to Element Occurrences through the application of Natural Heritage Methodology.. Element Occurrence (EO):.. An Element Occurrence represents a location in which an element is, or was, present.. An EO has continued (or historic) presence and/or regular recurrence at a given location and has practical conservation value.. Potential Conservation Area (PCA):.. A PCA represents CNHP s best estimate of the primary area supporting the long-term survival of targeted elements.. Network of Potential Conservation Areas (NCA):.. A landscape area that encompasses Potential Conservation Areas which share similar species or natural communities as well as ecological processes, or a mostly intact (maintained as natural vegetation), lightly fragmented landscape that supports wide-ranging species and large scale disturbances.. Revised Environmental Review Rate Structure (effective July 1, 2009):.. Tier 3 CNHP Website.. (.. CNHP Download Page.. ).. Tier 3 data requests usually  ...   /species or $5/ square mile within the client s geographic area of interest (1-mile minimum charge).. A minimum 2-mile buffer will be applied to linear requests.. A $55 rush fee will be applied to rush orders.. A 15% discount will be applied to data requests submitted by independent non-profit organizations and students.. Requests by Species.. Base Fee.. Plus # Species.. $250.. + $100/species.. Requests by Geographic Area.. Plus # of Square Miles.. + $5/sq.. mile.. Click Here.. to make a data request.. Tier 1 includes spatial data requires Data License Agreement.. Tier 1 data requests include spatial data and require signature of a Data License Agreement.. Spatial data and associated tabular reports for these requests are provided for a base fee ($350) PLUS fees per mapped location (based on tiered fee schedule) within the client s geographic area of interest.. Requests by Species or by Geographic Area.. Plus Fees per Mapped Location (ML).. $350.. + Tiered $/ML.. Description.. # Mapped Locations (ML).. $/ML.. First 100.. 0-100.. $6.. 00/ML.. Next 400.. 101-500.. $5.. Next 500.. 501-1,000.. $4.. Next 5,000.. 1,001-5,000.. $3.. 5,001-10,000.. $2.. 50/ML.. 10,001-15,000.. 15,001-20,000.. $1.. 20,001-25,000.. Example calculation for 685 mapped locations:.. 00 + (100 * $6.. 00) + (400 * $5.. 00) + (185 * $4.. 00) = $3,340.. CNHP Publications.. Some CNHP publications are not available on the CNHP website.. Requests for these publications will be fulfilled at a rate equal to the printing/copying fee PLUS a CNHP admin fee ($25.. 00).. Other Environmental Review Services.. Large-format maps can be made for any data products you order (rates will be contingent on the size of the map and the level of cartographic detail that you require)..
